Follow these 3 Steps to activate 2FA

You will need to have the following:

  • Birthdate
  • Colleague ID (Student ID)
  • Mobile phone or 2FA FOB
  • Authenticator App

Finding Your Login Credentials

How to Find Your Username

Step 1: Determine your username format:
  • First initial + Middle initial + Last name + Last 2 digits of your Colleague ID / Student ID
  • Employees: JTSmith32@piedmontcc.edu
  • Students: JTSmith32@students.piedmontcc.edu
Step 2: STUDENTS: If you don’t know your username, click here to retrieve it. You must provide the secondary email address that was submitted on your admission application.

What is Your Default Password?

Your default password follows this formula:

Step 1: First letter of last name (CAPITALIZED)
Step 2: Second letter of last name (lowercase)
Step 3: Two digits of birth month (01-12)
Step 4: Two digits of birth day (01-31)
Step 5: Last two digits of birth year
Step 6: Last four digits of your Colleague ID / Student ID

Setting up 2FA for the First Time

Setting Up Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

Step 1: Download the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device
  • Android: Open Google Play Store and search for “Microsoft Authenticator” or scan the QR code below:

  • iPhone: Open App Store and search for “Microsoft Authenticator” or scan the QR code below:

  • Install the app on your phone
Step 2: Log into Office 365 with your username and password
  • Employees: JTSmith32@piedmontcc.edu
  • Students: JTSmith32@students.piedmontcc.edu
Step 3: You will be prompted for “Additional security verification”
  • Under “Step 1: How should we contact you?” select Mobile app from the dropdown
Step 4: Choose how you want to use the mobile app
  • Select either:
    • Receive notifications for verification (recommended), OR
    • Use verification code
  • Click the Set up button
Step 5: Open the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device
  • Tap the + (plus) button to add an account
  • Select Work or school account
  • When prompted, tap ALLOW to let the Authenticator app take pictures and record video
Step 6: Scan the QR code displayed on your computer screen
  • Use your phone’s camera to scan the QR code shown in the browser
  • The account will be automatically added to your Authenticator app
Step 7: Complete the verification
  • Click Next on your computer
  • The system will send a test notification to your phone
  • Approve the notification on your phone to complete setup
Step 8: You’re all set! Your 2FA is now active
  • From now on, you’ll need to approve login requests on your phone when signing in
