You walk in a dark, quiet operating room. Your heart is pounding as you scan the room for the missing patient. Suddenly, you hear a shriek, and a bloody hand reaches out from under the table.
You’ve heard of haunted houses, but a haunted hospital? The latter might be scarier.
College leadership was looking for creative ways to bring people to campus and Dr. Darrick Woods, Dean, Nursing Programs, had just the idea. Add blood, creepy nurses, screaming patients and maybe even a clown and you’ve got one of the most haunted events in Person County.
With acting that is Oscar-worthy, you may be surprised to find out that each actor in the haunted hospital is a nursing student or nursing faculty member. But for two nights of the year, they trade in the clean scrubs and bright smiles for a look straight from a horror movie.
Presented by PCC’s Student Nurses’ Association (SNA), the haunted hospital began in 2022 and is back for its fourth year. Woods says that each year the event grows larger. The first year they had approximately 90 people attend and in 2025 they had over 200 with even more expected to come through this year.
Not only is the haunted hospital a fun, scary event, but the money raised from ticket sales goes right back into the community. In the past the SNA sponsored numerous community outreach initiatives, including blood drives, health fairs, Special Olympics in Person County and donated to PCC’s on-campus food pantry. This year they plan to use the proceeds to adopt families around Thanksgiving and Christmas.
For $5 in advance or $10 at the door, you can get scared by future nurses while supporting the SNA. Tickets can be purchased from a member of the SNA or nursing faculty. A free Trunk or Treat event will be held for kids during the same time.
The Haunted Hospital and Trunk or Treat will be held on PCC’s Person County Campus on October 28 and 29, 5-8 p.m. The Haunted Hospital will be held in Building G, Room 107B and Trunk or Treat will be held in Building S, Room 100.
