Piedmont Community College (PCC) has been awarded $208,362 through the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) to start a cardiovascular sonography program.
As part of the NCCCS High-Cost Workforce Start-Up Grant, the funds will be used for the initial start up of the program with PCC matching 5%. The program is estimated to begin fall 2027.
PCC launched its medical sonography program in August 2025 in response to regional demand for skilled sonographers. Building on the program’s success, the College wanted to expand its offerings to include cardiovascular sonography, which specializes in imaging the heart and blood vessels.
“Expanding our sonography offerings reflects our commitment as a college of preparing students for rewarding careers while meeting the evolving workforce needs of our region,” Dr. Kevin Lee, PCC president said. “By providing specialized training in both medical and cardiovascular sonography, we’re creating more pathways for students to enter the health care field and helping strengthen the health care workforce in our communities.”
