Amid a national shortage of 911 operators, Piedmont Community College (PCC) has partnered with Richmond Community College (RCC) to offer a 911 Telecommunications and Operations degree.

Students will develop an understanding of public safety communication systems while gaining practical experience in office software, technical writing, math and statistics, and cybersecurity. The curriculum also covers communication and interpersonal skills, local government finance, GIS, leadership and supervision, project coordination, time and organizational management, and grant writing. Additional focus areas include computer and network fundamentals, mental health awareness, and adapting to evolving technology in emergency communication settings.

Enrolled students will complete 47 hours at PCC and the final 18 hours online through RCC.
