STEP 1-SUBMIT ONLINE REGISTRATION AND ATTEND ORIENTATION

Submit the online registration form and attend an in-person orientation session. Program orientation is mandatory, and participants should plan to stay for the full time.

Participants will be introduced to the program, complete required enrollment forms, take an assessment test to determine adult basic skills in reading, and receive access to the online course. You will start immediately.

Requirements: Students must arrive 10 minutes early and bring a valid photo ID for verification.

STEP 2-STUDENT ASSESSMENTS AND LEARNING PLAN

Students will complete a set of placement tests to assess reading skills, meet with staff to review their individual learning plan, and discuss next steps.

Cost: All instruction, tutoring, and support services are offered at no cost to the student. Test fees are $15.00 for each of the five required subtests.

Outcomes: Students will be placed at the appropriate learning level and given access to instructional materials, dedicated instructors, and academic advising for personalized support.

Support: Progress will be closely monitored, with one-on-one lessons, tutoring, and resources provided to meet each student’s needs.

Face-to-Face Classes: We do not currently offer in-person classes; we are in the process of hiring for an adult basic skills instructor and an ESL instructor. Our goal is to offer these classes to our students, improving our services and commitment to learning within the community. More information will be provided as changes occur in 2026.

STEP 3: ACTIVELY PARTICIPATE IN THE ASSIGNED LEARNING PLATFORM

To remain actively engaged in the program, students are required to complete at least 8 hours of study each week. Study time may include working in the online learning platform, utilizing the open Learning Lab, completing assignments, meeting with an academic advisor, participating in employment readiness workshops, or receiving one-on-one tutoring as needed.

Consistent participation and communication are key to making steady progress and achieving long-term success.

STEP 4: TAKE THE HISET EXAM!

Once students are ready to take their high school equivalency exam, the registration is simple! We will assist you in signing up for the HiSET.® You will receive information about local testing policies, how to request modified testing conditions (accommodations), and you will be able to schedule your test.

Test Fees & Scheduling – $15.00 per subtest, Reading, Writing, Math, Social Studies, and Science. For test scheduling assistance, contact our Chief Test Administrator at 336-322-2480.

Scholarships: Financial assistance for testing fees is available for those who are unable to afford them. Applicants must be active students in good standing. There is a request for a fee waiver application that must be submitted and approved.
