Piedmont Community College (PCC) proudly celebrated the graduation of eight students from its Veterinary Assistant Program at a ceremony held in the Barnette Auditorium on May 11.

The 2026 Veterinary Assistant graduates are as follows: Elizabeth Daniel, Brittney Dunn, Kirsten Ellis, TaNyiah Ford, Miracle Hester, Nicole Olivera Amador, Irene Tsoukaris, Tori Young.

Mary Ann McBride, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine with Person County Animal Services, served as the guest speaker.

“You’ve chosen a profession that is not easy, but it is so worth it,” McBride said. “You’re stepping into a field that is broad, dynamic and constantly evolving.”

Each graduate was pinned by a family member. The graduates also acknowledged their class mascot, a dog named Baxter, who passed away a few weeks before the ceremony.

The Veterinary Assistant program at PCC prepares students for meaningful careers in animal care by providing hands-on training, technical instruction and foundational knowledge in veterinary medical practices. Graduates are equipped to pursue employment in veterinary clinics, animal hospitals, shelters, research facilities and other professional animal care environments. Some may also choose to continue their education to become licensed veterinary technicians or veterinarians.

PCC remains committed to building a strong regional pipeline for careers in animal health and science. For more information about the Veterinary Assistant program or to enroll in future cohorts, visit piedmontcc.edu/vetassist.
