Piedmont Community College (PCC) has been awarded a $1,000 grant for the 2026 First-Generation College Celebration initiative.
Provided by the Council for Opportunity in Education (COE) and FirstGen Forward with support from Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association of America (TIAA), the grant will enable PCC to further its commitment to support first-generation college students.
The First-Generation College Celebration, observed annually on November 8 by higher education institutions across the country, highlights the experiences and achievements of first-generation students while addressing the barriers they face. It was launched by COE and FirstGen Forward in 2017 to commemorate the signing of the 1965 Higher Education Act which has been instrumental in supporting millions of first-generation college students.
PCC plans to use these funds to support their fifth annual First-Generation College Celebration events in November. In the past, events have included a first-generation panel of students, employees and alumni sharing about their experiences as first-generation students, as well as a first-generation celebratory dinner.

This celebration is an important part of honoring their journey and the impact they make at PCC and beyond.”
