Piedmont Community College (PCC) Board of Trustees member, Phillip Allen, will be the keynote speaker at the College’s 2024 Commencement on May 17.

Allen was born in Person County and has worked for Thompson-Allen Insurance Agency since 1977. He has been an active member of the community for almost 50 years and has served on PCC’s Board of Trustees since 2012 and on the PCC Foundation Board of Directors for 16 years. He has also been the Chairman of the PCC Foundation Golf Classic for the past 20 years helping to raise nearly $750,000 for student scholarships in Person and Caswell Counties.

Allen is the current Chairman of the Person County Economic Development Commission and has served as a Board Member for over 12 years. He has also served as a Board Member for the Roxboro Area Chamber of Commerce, Person Memorial Hospital Foundation, Person County Museum of History, the President of Person County United Way and former Chairman of the Roxboro Board of Elections as well as other civic contributions.

Allen has played an instrumental role in the progress towards PCC’s Center for Health, Advanced Technology and Trades (CHATT) through his dedication to the economic development of Person County.

His father, the late Gordon Phillip Allen, Sr., was a member of the North Carolina Senate from 1969 to 1975 having served as President Pro-Tempore and the House of Representatives from 1998 to 2005. He was the first Chairman of the PCC Board of Trustees in 1969 and served as a Trustee for 38 years.

PCC’s 2024 Commencement ceremony begins at 6 p.m. on May 17 at the Caswell County Civic Center (536 Main Street in Yanceyville, NC). A livestream will be available at www.piedmontcc.edu/commencement.
