As part of their dedication to serving the community and fighting food insecurity, Piedmont Community College (PCC) has partnered with Caswell County Schools to deliver meals as part of their summer free lunch initiative.
With Oakwood Elementary being the only designated pickup site for free lunches for Caswell County School students, it can be challenging for families in the North Elementary area, particularly those in Pelham and Providence, who may not have reliable transportation to Yanceyville.
To bridge the gap, Emily Buchanan, PCC Director of Multi-Campus Sites, has worked with community partners to designate the Pelham Community Center as a satellite distribution site. Each Monday in July, staff from PCC’s Caswell County Campus will pick up lunches from Oakwood Elementary and deliver them to Pelham.
“We’re grateful for the opportunity to support our community in this way,” Buchanan said. “This partnership is a reflection of what’s possible when local organizations come together to meet the needs of our neighbors. It’s a privilege to help make access to meals a little easier for families this summer.”
In appreciation of this collaboration, the Pelham Community Center and local community members have invited PCC to participate in their weekly children’s events held every Monday throughout July. This creates an opportunity to engage with families and share information about the College. Buchanan, along with Edna Brown, PCC Student Development Director, Caswell County Campus, and Sandra Hudspeth from the Caswell County Partnership for Children, will be managing the lunch delivery process.

I am especially grateful for the leadership and dedication of Emily Buchanan, Director of Multi-Campus Sites, whose work continues to make a lasting impact on the lives of those we serve.”
A PCC recruiter will be at the Pelham Community Center each Monday in July 11 a.m.-2 p.m. to be available to meet with students and families about opportunities PCC provides. The school lunches will be available during that time as well, and local community organizations will be providing books and life skills lessons for kids.
