Piedmont Community College (PCC) is proud to announce Jimmy Clayton as the 2026 Alumnus of the Year, recognizing his exceptional dedication, continued support and commitment to the College.
Clayton was presented the 2026 Alumnus of the Year Award during PCC’s annual Honors Convocation held on April 21. This award is presented annually by the PCC Foundation to an individual who has demonstrated outstanding dedication and support for the College. Nominees must have successfully completed a degree, diploma or certificate program at PCC and have achieved significant success in their professional career as well as made meaningful contributions to civic and community affairs.
Clayton graduated from PCC in 1985 with a diploma in computer operations. He devoted two decades to public service as a Person County Commissioner (2000-2020), including multiple terms as Board Chairman. He is an active member of the Kiwanis Club of Roxboro and exemplifies PCC’s mission through support of the Foundation.
“At Piedmont Community College, we believe in the power of education to transform lives,” Grayson Brann, Executive Director of the PCC Foundation said. “This year’s Alumnus of the Year is a powerful example of that impact in action. Mr. Clayton’s success story will inspire future generations of students.”
Clayton was nominated for Alumnus of the Year by his son, Phillip Clayton, and daughter-in-law, Sherrie Clayton.
“His life reflects the values at the heart of Piedmont Community College: lifelong learning, service, humility and leadership grounded in humanity,” Phillip and Sherrie Clayton noted in his nomination form. “We are deeply proud of Jimmy Clayton – not only for what he has achieved, but for who he is.”
Clayton will address the 2026 graduating class at PCC’s commencement ceremony on May 16. The ceremony will be livestreamed on the College’s YouTube channel.
