Piedmont Community College is transitioning the majority of the courses in its Medical Assisting program to a Workforce/Continuing Education certification model. This will provide students a faster, more flexible pathway into the healthcare field.
Students will first complete two Workforce/Continuing Education certification courses designed to build essential, job-ready skills. After completing these courses, students who wish to continue their education can apply their learning toward the Medical Assisting degree through the College’s Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) option. CPL allows eligible students to receive academic credit for the knowledge and competencies they have already gained in the Workforce/Continuing Education program, creating a seamless transition into the degree program without repeating coursework.
This approach supports both immediate employment opportunities and long-term educational goals. Students desiring to obtain the Medical Assisting diploma or degree will be awarded CPL credit for all courses marked with an asterisk on the program of study pages below, leaving only a few remaining courses toward completion of the diploma or degree.
The Workforce Development option is designed to provide focused, hands-on instruction that prepares students with the essential administrative and clinical skills needed for entry-level employment in medical offices, clinics and outpatient healthcare settings.
Please contact us for questions or assistance in determining if this training option is the right fit for your career goals.
