Cardiovascular Technician/Monitor

This course is designed to prepare students to become a certified EKG (ECG) Technician/Monitor. The course will cover the anatomy and physiology of the heart, principles of EKG, dysrhythmia recognition of sinus, junctional/atrial rhythms, heart blocks and bundle branches and ventricular ectopy rhythms. Skills will include operating EKG equipment, running, and mounting strips as well as reading and interpreting 22 types of cardiac lead tracings produced from 12 lead monitors and to understand the basics of capnography as it relates to heart function.

Upon successful completion students qualify to sit for the Certified EKG Technician (CET) Exam through the National Healthcare Association (NHA).

Prerequisite: High School Diploma/High School Equivalency Diploma.

This program is offered as a Short-Term Workforce Development course through Continuing Education and is not eligible for FAFSA funding. Students are responsible for covering the cost of the course out of pocket or seeking financial assistance through a third-party provider. If a scholarship is available through PCC, details will be included in the payment instructions email upon course registration.

$129, National Healthcareer Association (NHA) EKG Technician Board Exam. This fee is paid directly to NHA no later than ten days before testing. Students must successfully complete the class before registering for the exam. The exam will be held on the Caswell County Campus.

FUNDING ASSISTANCE:

Scholarships are available for Person or Caswell County Residents, of 1 year or more, to cover registration fee only. The link to apply will be sent via email with your payment instructions once you have been registered for the course.
Students residing outside Person and Caswell Counties or those needing assistance to pay for full course are encouraged to contact their local NC Works to find out if they qualify for their services.
